Items to Take to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility:
*Services at this facility are only available to residents. Businesses and organizations should contact the facility for proper disposal outlets for their electronic and hazardous wastes.

Open: Tuesday- Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon
Electronics, listed below, are items used for entertainment or communication. The HHW Facility only accepts electronics for recycling. Appliances, which are for cooking, cleaning, and personal health, must go the landfill for recycling or disposal.
- Computer Units, including:
- Monitors, CPUs, Keyboards, Mice, Modems, Hard drives, CD ROM/ZIP/Tape drives, Laptops, USB ports/USB sticks, UPS (uninterrupted power supply)
- Printers (laser & jet) and similar items, including:
- Copy machines, Fax Machines, Scanners
- Stereos and similar items, including:
- Radios, Speakers, Portable CD players, MP3 players, Record players
- Battery Chargers
- Phones and similar items, including:
- Cell phones, Pagers, CBs/ two way radios, Answering machines
- Televisions and accessories, including:
- Cable boxes, DVD players, VCRs, Laser disk players, Remote controls, Video game systems, Video game controls/joysticks
- Misc. Home Office Equipment and similar items, including:
- Typewriters, Adding machines, Calculators, Palm organizers, Word processors, Paper shredders
- Cameras, Camcorders, and Home Video Equipment
- Cords, Cables, and Holiday Lights
Household Hazardous Waste can include any household chemicals, any chemicals you might find in your garage or shed, and a variety of other substances that are considered “flammable, toxic, corrosive, reactive, or dangerous” if disposed of improperly.
- Paint and similar items, including:
- Latex paint (Latex paint is not considered hazardous but it accepted at the HHW Facility. Dried latex paint can be disposed of in the trash.)
- Oil-based paint, Spray paint, Varnish and lacquer, Paint thinner/ turpentine, Paint remover, Wallpaper stripper, Wood stain, Wood preservative
- Household Cleaners/Chemicals, including:

Oven cleaners, Degreasers, Drain cleaners, Kitchen and bathroom cleaners, Carpet cleaners
- Automotive Chemicals, including:
- Motor oil (new or used), Used oil filters, Brake fluid, Antifreeze, Transmission fluid, Windshield washer fluid
- Concrete Mix (unused)
- Concrete/Driveway Sealant
- Aerosol Sprays, adhesives, lubricants, etc.
- Glues and Adhesives
- Mercury (thermometers, old thermostats)
- Pool Chemicals
- Lawn and Garden Chemicals, including:
- Fertilizers, Pesticides, Insecticides, Herbicides
- Fuels, such as:
- Gasoline, Contaminated or unusable fuels, Propane cylinders, Lighter fluid
- Batteries, including
- Lithium and lithiumion, Lead-acid (car, boat, motorcycle, etc.), Button, Nickel-cadmium (NiCad), Nickel metal-hydride (NiMH), Any other rechargeable battery
- Corrosives (acids and bases) such as bleach
- Cosmetics, nail polish, and nail polish remover
- Cooking Oil, vegetable oil, grease, etc.
- CFLs (coiled, energy-saving bulbs)
- Fluorescent Lamps, bulbs and ballasts (ballasts must be removed from the lighting fixture)
- Ammunition (from .22 up to .50bmg rounds, which includes shotgun shells)
- Unexploded Fireworks or firecrackers
- Home Fire Extinguishers
Items to Take to the Sioux Falls Regional Sanitary Landfill FOR RECYCLING:
*Residents, organizations, and businesses should consult their waste hauler to see who is responsible for transporting the following items to the appropriate area of the landfill for recycling. When arriving at the landfill, speak with attendants at the scale house to determine where your items should be dropped off.
