Place holds

If Siouxland Libraries owns the item you want, you may place a hold on it. This will reserve it for you when it is returned to the Library. When the item is available, you will receive a notice telling you that you can pick it up at the branch library you select.

You will need your Siouxland Libraries library card and the barcode number on the back.

To place a hold online:

  1. Go to the Library Catalog and search for what you want.
  2. Click on the button that says "Place Hold on Next Available Copy."* If you want a specific copy or volume, click on the title of the item to see the full information; then click on "Place Hold on this Specific Copy” beside the copy you want.*
  3. Enter your library barcode number and PIN and click on "Login."
  4. Select the location where you want to pick up the item.
  5. Click on "Request."

If holds are not allowed on the item, you will get a red message telling you the request has failed.

* What is the difference between “Place Hold on Next Available Copy” and “Place Hold on this Specific Copy”?

  •  “Place Hold on Next Available Copy” means you will get the next copy that becomes available. This is usually the best way to put a hold on a book where all the copies are the same. You will usually get the book more quickly this way.
  • "Place Hold on this Specific Copy” is used when you want a specific volume or disc in a set.

To place a hold by phone:
Call 367-8720 or any Siouxland Libraries branch.

To place a hold in person:
Ask at the desk of any Siouxland Libraries branch.

To suspend a hold until later:

  1. Sign in to My Account and view the list of items you have on hold.
  2. Click the box beside the title you want to suspend.
  3. Set the date to when you want the item.
  4. Click "Change Status."
