Special Qualifications

Membership must include the Mayor's designee and four other members appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the City Council, one County Commissioner and four other members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners, and the president of the Siouxland Heritage Museums Alliance.

Residency/Registered Voter Requirement

All members of the Board shall reside within the territory of the city or the county.

Summary of Duties

Responsible to the City and County for the development and operations of a museum system composed of the Pettigrew Home and Museum and the Old Courthouse Museum and such other facilities brought into the joint museum system.

Duties

Duties of the Siouxland Heritage Museums Board:

  1. Be responsible to the City and County for the development and operation of a museum system composed of the Pettigrew Home and Museum and the Old Courthouse Museum and such other facilities brought into the joint museum system.
  2. Prepare and recommend an annual budget to be presented to the City Council and County Commission.
  3. Make policy for the development and operation of the joint museum system.
  4. Make recommendations to the City Council and County Commission regarding the hiring of a director and assistant director for the joint museum system.
  5. Adopt written rules and regulations as necessary to carry out its functions. Such rules and regulations shall not be in conflict with adopted rules, regulations, and ordinances of the City and County. The Board and staff shall review all rules and regulations annually and recommend appropriate amendments.
  6. Receive approval from the City and County for all operating rules and regulations.

 

Committees

Committees of the Siouxland Heritage Museums Board

Finance Committee: Meets, reviews and advises the staff and board on fiscal issues relative to the Museum's operation.

Building and Facilities Committee: Meets, reviews and advises staff and board on the Museum structures; the Old Courthouse Museum and the Pettigrew Home and Museum.

Store Committee: Meets, reviews and advises the staff and board on issues relative to the operation of the Museum store.

Visitor Experience Committee: Meets, reviews and advises the staff and board on issues relative to the Museum's development, production and presentation of educational and exhibit planning.

Collections Committee: Meets, reviews and advises the staff and board on issues relative to the Museum's collection. Reviews all requests for repatriation and deaccession from the collections, all controversial loans and donations, and makes recommendations to the board.

Endowment Committee: Meets annually to review status of the Museum's endowment, and make recommendations to the board on how to use interest income.
