The area affected by the downtown power outage continues to be Eighth Street to 11th Street and Minnesota Avenue to Phillips Avenue. Some buildings may or may not have power depending on how power is supplied to the building.

The emergency Red Cross shelter is open at 808 West Avenue North. This is just south of the Arena/Convention Center. Those wanting information about sheltering should contact the Red Cross at 336-2448. There was a rumor that a gas leak had occurred, but this is false. The situation is contained and safely under control and there is not gas leak.

Affected residents are cautioned against using ovens, grills, or other nonconventional means to heat their homes. These items are not safe to use to heat a home and will put you and your home at risk.

Residents should stay away from the affected area. There are large trucks and crews working in the area and they need a safe working environment free of unnecessary traffic.
