Board Vacancy—Civil Service Board

Mayor Mike Huether has announced a vacancy in a Mayoral appointment to the Civil Service Board.

The Civil Service Board enforces rules and regulations providing for the appointment and employment of all positions in the City classification system. The Board is responsible for certifying all entrance and promotional/transfer eligibility lists and conducts hearings and renders decisions in response to appeals from civil service employees who have been suspended, demoted, or discharged. The Civil Service Board provides guidance and makes recommendations regarding employment activities and testing procedures. Because the board engages in administrative hearings, legal experience is desirable for this appointment.

The Board is composed of four members who are resident taxpayers of the city of Sioux Falls that are appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the City Council.

The Board meets bimonthly on the first Wednesday at 12 noon in the Human Resources Conference Room. Meetings last approximately one hour.
