It’s Time to Get Your Geek On at Siouxland Libraries

Community members may soon add a new verb to their vocabulary—“geek.” Siouxland Libraries will participate in Geek the Library—a community-based public awareness campaign highlighting what people are passionate about and how the library can support them.

Geek the Library features local educational material that introduces “geek” as a verb meaning to be passionate about something. It encourages the public to share what they “geek” and invites them to discover how the library supports their passions. Siouxland Libraries supports what you “geek” through classes, events, databases, and online services.

“Siouxland Libraries celebrates what you ‘geek’ by focusing on lifelong learning,” says Mary Johns, Director of Siouxland Libraries. “Whether you are coming to us as a new reader, using our resources to further your education, or attending our classes and events, the library promotes the philosophy that by ‘learning for life’ the individuals in our communities have a greater opportunity for success.”

To help the library launch the campaign, we invite the public to a kickoff event at the Main Library, 200 North Dakota Avenue, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2014. Stop in to enjoy refreshments, live music from Doktor Barkey, and to create your own Geek poster. Can’t make it to the Main Library? Visit any library branch on May 1 to learn more about how you can participate in Geek the Library. For more information, call 367-8720 or check out www.siouxlandlib.org/geek.
