On Sunday, May 14, 2017, at 2:53 a.m., Sioux Falls Police Department was dispatched to the 700 block of South Charlotte Avenue for a stabbing. Officers were arriving on scene when they witnessed a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed. Officers stopped that vehicle and located a 20-year-old male with a stab wound to the back and one stab wound to the shoulder/neck area. Ambulance arrived on scene and transported the victim to the hospital. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries due to the stab wounds.
While officers were stopping the vehicle with the victim, two suspects were located walking down the street near the traffic stop. The suspects were stopped by police and both were detained. One of the suspects was seen by officers throwing a large knife into the trees nearby. The knife was later found to have blood on it and was a large hunting-style knife.
The victim of the stabbing identified the person that had stabbed him to be Julian Augustine Redday, DOB: 5/10/1996. The other person with him was identified as Daniel Saxton Koeke, DOB: 11/22/1989, who also had an open knife on him when officers detained him. Redday and Koeke were both placed under arrest and transported to jail.
