Structure Fire—421 North Cockatiel Avenue

On February 16, 2018, at 1:40 a.m., Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was dispatched to a report of a structure fire on north Cockatiel Avenue. A patrolling security guard in the area reported smoke and flames coming from a home.

The first fire crew on scene found flames coming through the roof of the split foyer single-family home. Efforts to control the fire were limited to crews operating from the exterior due to the volume of fire and partial collapse of the roof trusses. After 20 minutes on scene, crews were able to enter the building to verify no one was in the structure. There were no injuries reported from the incident. The home sustained extensive damage.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with 5 fire trucks, 23 firefighters, and 3 support vehicles. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. We were supported on scene by Metro Communications, Sioux Falls Police Department, Paramedics Plus Ambulance, MidAmerican Energy, and Xcel Energy.
