Apartment Fire at 901 North Cleveland Avenue
At 8:07 p.m., June 12, 2018, Tuesday evening, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 901 North Cleveland Avenue. Initial reports were that people were running out of the building yelling, “Fire!”
The first-arriving crew reported that they had smoke and flames coming from a second floor window of the three-story apartment building. Additional crews began evacuating the building while fire suppression was initiated. Crews were able to have the fire under control within 15 minutes on scene. The fire was confined to the kitchen of the fire apartment on second floor. There were no injuries reported from either occupants or responders.
Crews continued to work for hours after the fire to remove smoke from all floors and limit the water damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. All occupants except for the fire apartment were able to reoccupy their apartments. The American Red Cross was able to assist the displaced family with accommodations.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with eight fire trucks, three support vehicles, and 34 firefighters. We were assisted on scene by Metro Communications, Sioux Falls Police, the American Red Cross, Paramedics Plus ambulance, Xcel Energy, and MidAmerican Energy.
