Structure Fire—4201 South West Ave
On Sunday evening, March 11, 2018, at approximately 7:20 p.m., Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire at 4201 South West Avenue.
Fire companies arrived to find smoke from a second floor apartment window with flames visible inside. Fire companies located and extinguished the fire approximately 10 minutes after arrival. Residents of the apartment building had been notified of the fire from the building fire alarm system and had exited the structure prior to Sioux Falls Fire Rescue units’ arrival. A thorough search was conducted on both levels of the complex and no rescues were necessary. Ventilation of the structure was completed and efforts were made to minimize damage to adjacent apartments.
The apartment was occupied at the time of the fire. Residents of the fire apartment were displaced as a result of the fire. There were no civilian injuries and no firefighters were injured during the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with four fire trucks, one command vehicle, and three support vehicles. Twenty-one Fire personnel as well as a Sioux Falls Fire Rescue chaplain were on scene. Assistance was given by the Sioux Falls Police Department, Paramedics Plus ambulance, MidAmerican Energy, and Xcel Energy.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would like to remind residents to check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors for proper functioning and plan escape routes.
