Master Plan

In 2011, the City completed a needs assessment that confirmed the need for an indoor aquatic center. In 2013, the City hired Counsilman-Hunsaker to develop an aquatic facility master plan, which recommended Spellerberg Park as the ideal location for a centrally located indoor aquatic center.

Objective

The construction of the new indoor aquatic center at Spellerberg Park will begin in the spring of 2015 with the grand opening scheduled for the fall of 2016. More than 70 percent of voters in the spring 2014 municipal election voted against the construction of a new outdoor pool complex at Spellerberg Park, paving the way for the City to move forward with plans to build a multipurpose indoor aquatic center at the site. The proposed funding plan, along with the design and construction contracts for the project were approved by the Sioux Falls City Council in September 2014.
