Planning Academy

In 2040, where will people work, live, and shop in Sioux Falls? Sioux Falls is expected to grow from the current 190,000 populations to 280,000 persons by then. Our metro area population could reach 325,000, and city size expand from 78 to 120 square miles in area. What will be our city’s challenges and opportunities for growth? The Citizen Planning Academy is an opportunity for Sioux Falls residents to assess and discuss the future of the city.

The goal of the Citizen Planning Academy is to empower citizens to gain a better understanding of community planning and development, so that citizens can effectively engage in neighborhood planning efforts. Participants will come away not only with an understanding of how city planning helps shape our community, but also the importance that engagement and participation in local affairs plays in the development of our community.

The Citizen Planning Academy will be held across two classes:

  • Thursday, October 6: 5:30–7:30 p.m. Class I
  • Monday, October 17: 5:30–7:30 p.m. Class II

Applications are open until 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30. To apply, complete our online application or contact the Sioux Falls Planning Office at (605) 367-8891, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday–Friday.
