43rd Street Drainage Improvements

Project Update 05/31/2019

Wet weather is slowing project progress. Removals for Phases 1 and 2 are complete and the contractor is working on utility installation in the Westport Avenue intersection. We hope to be able to reopen the intersection in the next 2 weeks. Utility work and grading will continue between Louise Avenue and Westport Avenue following completion of the intersection.

  5. Phase 1 – Installation of water main and storm sewer pipes – Louise Avenue to Westport Avenue
  6. Phase 1 – Final grading – Louise Avenue to Westport Avenue
  7. Phase 1 – Asphalt surfacing – Louise Avenue to Westport Avenue
  8. Phase 3 – Removal of existing surfacing – Westport Avenue to Big Sioux River Levee
  9. Phase 3 – Installation of water main and storm sewer pipes – Westport Avenue to Big Sioux River Levee
  10. Phase 3 – Final grading – Westport Avenue to Big Sioux River Levee
  11. Phase 3 – Asphalt surfacing – Westport Avenue to Big Sioux River Levee
     

Commuter Route Information

  • The access from the Bike Trail is closed during construction. The contractor is currently pumping storm water over the levee, which requires a pipe to be laid over the trail. A temporary ramp has been placed over the pipe for pedestrians.
  • The Westport Avenue intersection is currently closed for Phase 2 construction. Commuters should utilize 41st Street, Louise Avenue and 49th Street.
  • 43rd Street will be closed from Louise to Westport Ave during Phase 1 and 2 construction.
  • Sidewalks will be closed during construction with pedestrian traffic detoured to Louise Avenue.

Project Overview

Completion Date: October 25, 2019

Contract Amount: $1,876,644.95

This project will add a third 60” storm drainage pipe and connection to the Big Sioux River Levee structure.  We will also replace existing water main pipe, all curb/gutter and asphalt surfacing.
