Sioux Falls Police Dept. Career Cadets
SFPD Career Cadets

Our community cares deeply about safety, health, and quality of life in Sioux Falls. They want to protect their loved ones and ensure people are held accountable for their actions. Yet, a career in law enforcement can seem out of reach for many.

Becoming a police officer shouldn’t be a financial burden. Learning more about the Sioux Falls Police Department (SFPD) can help those at the start of their career journey and those looking to change paths. Joining team SFPD ensures long-term advancement opportunities and financial security right here in our city — along with the chance to be a positive influence in their community. That’s why we’re proud to announce a new partnership with Southeast Technical College.

SFPD Career Cadets

The SFPD Career Cadets increases access to higher education for community members interested in exploring a career in public safety. Cadets will join the City of Sioux Falls in a part-time civilian role at the SFPD. Cadets who maintain good academic standing also receive a scholarship to cover 12 credit hours at Southeast Technical College.

Once enrolled, cadets are paired with a mentor from the department. Through this relationship, they will learn about the vast career paths within the SFPD, as well as across the entire City of Sioux Falls team. They will also leave the program with paid, professional experience for wherever their career takes them next.

Hear from Lt. Rob Forster and others about this exciting new program.
