Council Committees
Title III, § 30.004 of the Sioux Falls Code of Ordinances states that the Council shall establish an audit committee, fiscal committee, regulatory oversight committee, operations committee, and city services committee as standing committees of the Council. The Council Chair and Vice Chair shall appoint the members of each committee and shall designate the committee chair for each committee who shall serve as the presiding officer.
These committees are typically comprised of three or four members of the Council some of whom may serve on multiple committees. The Operations Committee is traditionally comprised of the Chair, Vice Chair, immediate past Chair and a member elected at-large by the City Council during their third regular meeting in May. This committee is responsible for the annual review of the City Council Procedures manual.
Audit Committee
Committee topics are approved by each committee’s chair. Examples of previous discussion topics and audits include, but are not limited to: Landfill Cash Controls, Construction Contracts, Police Crime Lab, Transit, Great Plains & Museum, Public Facility Ticket Fee, Dakota Golf Management, Internal Auditor Professional Practices Framework and others.
Fiscal Committee
Committee topics are approved by each committee’s chair. Examples of previous discussion topics and action items include, but are not limited to: Public Facility Ticket Fee, Budget Review & Summary, Fleet Management, Water Reclamation State Revolving Fund (SRF) Notes, Street Construction Planning & Scheduling and others.
Operations Committee
Committee topics are approved by each committee’s chair. Examples of previous discussion topics and action items include, but are not limited to: City Council Travel Policy, City Council Procedures Manual, Elections, Council Recognitions, Staff Reports, SIRE, Comment Cards and others.
City Service Committee
Committee topics are approved by each committee’s chair. Examples of previous discussion topics and action items include, but are not limited to: Secondary Access Roads, Emergency Alert Strategies, Electronic Communication Device restrictions, Transportation Network Companies, Mobile Vending, 85th St. Interchange and others.
