Janet Brekke (AL)
Janet was raised in the small farm community of Doland, SD, and is a graduate of Doland High School. She went on to receive a bachelor of arts degree and juris doctorate in law from the University of South Dakota.
For four years, Janet served as a Minnehaha County deputy state’s attorney and 18 years in the Sioux Falls City Attorney’s Office that included eight years as City Attorney under Mayors Gary Hanson and Dave Munson. In 2004, she opened HoneyBaked Ham Co., which she owned and managed for 13 years.
Janet has been active in the legal field and Sioux Falls community by serving in the following organizations: International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA)—Chairman Ethics Section, State Chairman; South Dakota Bar Association—Chair of Committee for Active Participation of Women in the Bar; South Dakota Municipal League—President of City Attorney’s Association; South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association; Sioux Falls Downtown Lions Club—President; Chamber of Commerce—Business Leadership Committee; Issues Management Committee’s Chamber Appeals Committee Chairman; Family Services Inc. Board President; Junior League of Sioux Falls Advisory Board; and American Red Cross board member.
Janet’s family includes her husband, Jeff, and three adult children, Morgan, Logan, and Rheann.
