Smoke alarms are the first line of defense when it comes to fire in your home. Working smoke alarms are now more accessible than ever.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, in partnership with the American Red Cross, provides smoke alarms and installation free of charge to residents in Sioux Falls.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue is partnering with the Helpline Center to streamline requests for Smoke Alarm checks, and installations. Every day people turn to 211 for information and support.
Here at Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, our mission is to save lives, and to protect property. By having working smoke alarms, you have a better chance of keeping you, your family, and your pets safe, and you have a better chance of distinguishing a fire and protecting your home.
How do I request smoke alarms?
It’s easy! Call 211 to request smoke alarms in your home. They will ask you a series of questions including the following: if you own or rent the residence, if you have an alarm chirping, if you are within City limits, your name, etc. They will also ask what your availability looks like for us to get ahold of you. After you talk with 211, an inspector at Sioux Falls Fire Rescue will reach out and coordinate the install with you.
Do I have to live in Sioux Falls in order to be eligible?
Yes, you have to be a resident within Sioux Falls city limits. If you currently live outside of City limits and are in need of smoke alarms, we encourage you to reach out to your local fire department.
Do I have to live in a certain neighborhood to be eligible?
No. This program is for anyone in Sioux Falls in need of smoke alarms, with priority given to those who may not otherwise be able to afford them or install smoke alarms on their own.
