Snow Alert Update
The Public Works Street Division and private contractors have completed the plowing on Emergency Routes.
Zone 3: Plowing in Zone 3 is complete
Zone 2: Plowing of east/west streets is complete.
Plowing of north/south streets began at 8 a.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2019. All vehicles parked on north/south streets are subject to ticketing and towing until streets have been plowed or until 5 p.m., whichever is earlier. Although this requirement is in effect only until 5 p.m., any continuing snow removal operations may impact your use of the street for parking.
Zone 1: Snow pickup operations in Zone 1 will begin at 1 a.m. on Friday, February 22, 2019. Vehicles parked in Zone 1 will be subject to ticketing and towing between the hours of 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Friday, February 22, 2019.
Snow Gates—We are using snow gates and in most cases they are reducing the amount of snow discharged into residential driveways. The consistency and abundance of this new snow is very light and is overtopping the blade and snow gate leaving more snow than what property owners normally see.
Narrowing of Residential Streets—The amount and timing of the snow storms we have received this season is now causing the residential streets to narrow. This occurs because of the volume of snow stored in the boulevard. As this amount increases, the width of the pile moves out into the street. If a property owner has a street side mailbox or frequently parks in the street, this will require additional snow removal effort by the property owner to accommodate these uses. The National Weather Service is predicting below freezing temperatures for the next two weeks which means we will not see much melting to shrink the piles in the near term.
Fire Hydrants—Please remember to keep snow and ice 3 feet away from fire hydrants. In case of a fire, firefighters need to be able to get to the hydrants quickly to protect people and property.
General snow removal information is available on the City’s website at www.siouxfalls.org/snow and on cable channel CityLink.
