Street Construction News
Minnesota Avenue – Fully Open
By the end of the day on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, South Minnesota Avenue from 57th Street to St. Andrews Drive will be fully open to traffic.
This segment of Minnesota Avenue had one of the highest crash rates in the city. Most of them were rear-end crashes attributed to a high number of turning vehicles. A key improvement made as a part of the project is a center turn lane, which will separate turning traffic from through traffic. This addition will result in major safety improvements on Minnesota Avenue.
Additionally, the project involved removal of the existing street surfacing, replacing the existing water main, reconstruction of the storm sewer, installation of new street lights and traffic signals, new concrete pavement, sidewalk, and 8’ wide side path. Private utility companies also upgraded their facilities during the project.
Due to delays in manufacturing and shipping, the traffic signal has not been completed at Ralph Rogers Road. Based on our communication with the manufacturer, it is anticipated that the remaining components will arrive and will be installed before the end of the year. Periodic lane closures will continue into the spring of 2022 for grass restoration and tree planting.
The City of Sioux Falls would like to thank the motorists and business owners for their patience while the improvements were made.
Lane Closure – 26th Street
Beginning on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, the farthest westbound lane on East 26th Street from South Ester Drive to South Village Square Circle will be reduced to one lane.
The City of Sioux Falls Street Department is completing street repairs.
This work is anticipated to be complete by Friday evening, November 26, 2021.
Drivers are urged to use caution and reduced speeds while travelling near the construction area and may want to consider alternate routes.
