Citizens Encouraged to Sign Up for the Sioux Falls Citizen Planning Academy
In 2040, where will people work, live, and shop in Sioux Falls? Sioux Falls is expected to grow from the current 190,000 populations to 280,000 persons by then. Our metro area population could reach 325,000, and city size expand from 78 to 120 square miles in area. What will be our city’s challenges and opportunities for growth? The City of Sioux Falls Planning Academy is an opportunity for Sioux Falls Citizens to assess and discuss the future of the city.
Offered by the City’s Planning and Development Services division, the goal of the Citizen Planning Academy is to empower citizens to gain a better understanding of community planning and development, so that citizens can effectively engage in neighborhood planning efforts. Participating in the Sioux Falls Citizen Planning Academy, participants will come away not only with an understanding of how city planning helps shape our community, but also the importance that engagement and participation in local affairs plays in the development of our community.
Citizens across Sioux Falls are encouraged to sign up for the Citizen Planning Academy. The academy will be held on Thursday evening, October 6, and Monday evening, October 17, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The classes will be conducted at City Center, 231 North Dakota Avenue, and there is an option for virtually attendance on the WebEx meetings platform. Topics will include an overview of city planning, comprehensive planning, planning engagement, zoning, planning housing, and planning roads, plus other items suggested by citizens.
