Northwest Distribution System Improvements – Kiwanis Avenue to Foundation Court

Update: 9/4/2020   

  • The contractor is currently working near Interstate 90 (Phase 1B) installing pipeline under the interstate right-of-way.
  • Work will move to the Kiwanis Avenue right-of-way (Phase 1A) beginning the week of September 21.

Commuter Route Information

  • Phase 1A: Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flaggers while work is occurring on the east side of Kiwanis Avenue. Traffic will be maintained to 70th Street North at all times. 
  • Phase 1B: The outside shoulder of I-90 will be closed in both eastbound and westbound directions within the project limits. 
  • Phase 2A: Kiwanis Avenue will be closed to traffic.  A detour will be set up to direct traffic from 60th Street North to 258th Street (Minnehaha County Highway 130) via Interstate 29. 
  • Phase 2B: No impact to through traffic on Kiwanis Avenue.  Local traffic coordinated with property owners.
  • Phase 2C: No impact to traffic.
  • Phase 2D: 260th Street and Foundation Court will be closed.  Local traffic only.

Project Summary:

This project includes the installation of approximately 6600 feet (1.25 miles) of 16” water main connecting Kiwanis Avenue to Foundation Court. This will supply Foundation Park with a secondary source of water for redundancy, and provide access to City water for future development along Kiwanis Avenue.
