Project T.R.I.M.
Project T.R.I.M. (Tree Raising Improvement Methods) is a pro-active tree inspection program to address low-hanging tree branches over streets and sidewalks.
Trees play an important role in our community. Their beauty and protection help make Sioux Falls a pleasant place to live. However, proper maintenance of trees located in the public right-of-way, also called the parking strip or boulevard, is important for public safety. This maintenance is the responsibility of the abutting property owner. Private trees and shrubs that grow into the public right-of-way are also subject to clearance requirements.
Each year different neighborhoods are surveyed through Project T.R.I.M. to ensure trees in the public right-of-way are being properly maintained. Project T.R.I.M. is structured as a five-year cyclic street tree trimming program. The City of Sioux Falls Urban Forestry Management inspects trees for low-hanging branches. The inspectors will determine if trimming is needed, and the property owner will be notified. This is accomplished by dividing the city into five districts with one district being surveyed each year. A district is divided into two sections with each section being surveyed at a specific time during the year (February and September.) Please refer to the map and schedule below to see when we will be in your neighborhood.
