I CAN FISH! PRESCHOOL FISHING

Fishing is a great way for a child to feel connected to nature while exercising and improving essential motor skills. After reading a fish story and creating a craft, participants will fish at West Covell Lake. All equipment provided. Parent participation required. Free. No registration required.

Today’s families often have limited opportunities to connect with the natural environment through outdoor experiences. Fishing in your local parks is a perfect way to combat this statistic. We’ll provide the bait, fishing poles, and instruction on a first–come, first–served basis. Children must be accompanied by an adult and a five–to–one ratio of children to adults must be observed. Participants ages 16 and above must have a valid South Dakota fishing license. No registration required.

Did you know spending time outdoors reduce stress? Could you use a little stress release? if so, join us Saturdays in June and July to spend your morning fishing at Family Park. Fishing poles and bait supplied on a first–come, first–served basis. No registration required.

SUMMER SOLSTICE HIKE

GREAT BEAR RECREATION PARK AGES: 6-99

Celebrate the longest day of the year by partaking in a hike in one of Sioux Falls’ most beautiful parks. Hiking not only provides the physical relief of other exercise choices, hiking in nature has shown to be a powerful anxiety and stress reliever for people of all ages. Bring sturdy shoes and an adventurous spirit to partake in this summer solstice hike. Must be able to hike one mile on rocky and sometimes uneven terrain. Registration required.

FULL MOON HIKE

Come out and see Great Bear under the full Sturgeon moon’s glow! Hiking not only provides the physical relief of other exercise choices, but hiking in nature has shown to be a powerful anxiety and stress reliever for people of all ages. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Participants must be able to hike one mile on uneven terrain. Please wear sturdy shoes. Registration required.
