What is a Major Street Plan?

A Major Street Plan is a document that consists of a map of a municipality’s future collector and arterial streets.

Why do we need a Major Street Plan?

The Major Street Plan guides the authority area for the Sioux Falls Subdivision Ordinance, Zoning Ordinance, and Engineering Design Standards enforce access management, official map controls, right-of-way dedication, and joint jurisdictional subdivision.

What defines the boundary for the Major Street Plan?

The Shape Sioux Falls 2040 comprehensive plan provides the basis for the Major Street Plan boundary to help identify jurisdiction limits for subdivision authority. The City of Sioux Falls, Minnehaha County, and Lincoln County are in the process of jointly approving the Shape Sioux Falls 2040 Comprehensive Plan to also officially identify an updated joint zoning area that will be consistent with the Major Street Plan boundary. This process has allowed for public review and comments.
